The Mary Lynn Neuhaus Civility Award
Dedicated to the former head coach of Loras College Mock Trial, the Mary Lynn Neuhaus Civility Award is bestowed upon the team that most embodies the spirit of mock trial just as Mary Lynn Neuhaus did in her time as Loras College Mock Trial's head coach and continues to do as a member of the AMTA Board. The team awarded the Mary Lynn Neuhaus Civility Award is chosen by their peers as the team that most exemplifies civility, sportsmanship, and courtesy.
Mary Lynn Neuhaus holds a Juris Doctor degree from Creighton University School of Law. The American Academy of ADR Attorneys certified her as an instructor in mediation. She has also held a RISK Fellowship at University of Iowa in Law, Ethics & Public Policy and was a Lott Leadership Scholar at University of Mississippi during a sabbatical from Loras College in 2006. She is licensed before the Iowa and United States Supreme Court. Prof. Neuhaus sits on the American Mock Trial Board of Directors and on the International Academy of Dispute Resolution. She was the recipient of the Iowa State Bar Assn Award of Merit, only the second woman attorney in Iowa to receive the bar’s highest honor. She has served on the Board of Governors of both the Iowa Bar Assn and the Iowa Trial Lawyers Assn, the Iowa Supreme Court Planning Commission and the Iowa Supreme Court Grievance Commission. She currently is in her second term as a Bar Examiner. She also served on the Board of Directors of Mercy Health Care Systems for ten years, and is a past director of the Iowa Correctional Services Board. Prof. Neuhaus also has served on the Board and as an officer of the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Board and the YM-YWCA Foundation Board. She is past President of the Dubuque County Bar Assn and is a Fellow of the Iowa Bar Foundation. She is a frequent lecturer on legal and business communication topics. She coached the Loras Mock Trial Team for 25 years, founded the Loras Moot Court Team, and currently coaches the Loras Mediation Team which has been ranked in the top ten since they were founded in 2000.
In the summers for the past twelve years, Prof. Neuhaus has served as the Senior Program Director for LeadAmerica Law Program.
